Why is my trailer’s cargo capacity lower than the sticker suggests?

Stickers often list GVWR only. Actual cargo capacity is GVWR minus your trailer’s true tare weight, which is usually higher than a spec-sheet “dry weight” once features and fluids are included.

Can I exceed the 80% operational ceiling occasionally?

You can stay under GVWR and still be legal, but you lose the safety buffer the 80% guideline provides. It’s a recommendation, not a regulation.
