Idaho paycheck calculator designed to estimate real take-home pay based on Idaho payroll rules. Calculates salary or hourly wages, overtime, bonuses, deductions, allowances, FICA, and Idaho state tax, plus annual refund or tax owed—matching how Idaho paychecks actually look.
| Frequency | Gross Pay | Total Tax | Net Pay |
|---|
The Idaho Paycheck Calculator computes estimated per-paycheck and annual payroll values by converting income, pay mode, pay frequency, filing status, deductions, allowances, and credits into federal income tax withholding, Idaho state income tax withholding, FICA taxes, deductions, and net pay values. The Idaho Paycheck Calculator uses fixed constants, flat rates, progressive federal tax brackets, allowance reductions, caps, and arithmetic operations defined in the calculation logic to generate numeric outputs for paycheck results, annual summaries, comparison tables, and distribution charts.
Inputs Used by the Idaho Paycheck Calculator
Pay Mode (Salary / Hourly)
A categorical input that determines how gross pay per pay period is calculated. In salary mode, gross pay per period is taken directly from the gross pay input. In hourly mode, gross pay per period is calculated from hourly rate, regular hours, and overtime hours.
Pay Frequency
An integer input representing the number of pay periods per year. Supported values are 52 (weekly), 26 (bi-weekly), 24 (semi-monthly), 12 (monthly), and 1 (annually). This value is used to annualize per-period income and to divide annual taxes and deductions into per-paycheck amounts.
Gross Pay (Per Period)
A currency input used only in salary mode. This value represents gross earnings for one pay period before taxes and deductions.
Hourly Rate
A currency input used only in hourly mode. This value represents compensation per hour.
Regular Hours
A numeric input representing regular hours worked per pay period. This value is multiplied by the hourly rate.
Overtime Hours
A numeric input representing overtime hours worked per pay period. These hours are multiplied by the hourly rate and a fixed multiplier of 1.5.
Federal Filing Status
A categorical input with values single, married filing jointly, or head of household. This selection determines which federal tax bracket table and federal standard deduction constant are applied.
Idaho State Filing Status
A categorical input distinguishing between single (or married filing separately) and married filing jointly (or head of household) for Idaho calculations. This selection determines which Idaho standard deduction constant is applied.
Bonus / Extra Income
A currency input added directly to gross pay per pay period before annualization.
401(k) / Pre-Tax Percentage
A percentage input applied to annual gross income. The calculated amount is treated as a pre-tax deduction.
Other Deductions
A currency input representing post-tax deductions applied per pay period.
Idaho Allowances (Form ID-4)
An integer input representing Idaho withholding allowances. Each allowance reduces Idaho taxable income by a fixed annual amount of 3,750, as defined in the calculation logic.
Idaho Grocery Credit (Dependents)
An integer input representing dependents for grocery credit estimation. This value is used only to calculate an estimated annual credit and does not affect paycheck net pay.
Work Location
A categorical input used only for labeling. No local income tax calculations are applied.
How the Idaho Paycheck Calculator Works
The calculation begins by determining gross pay per pay period. In salary mode, the gross pay input is used directly. In hourly mode, regular pay is calculated as hourly rate multiplied by regular hours, and overtime pay is calculated as hourly rate multiplied by overtime hours and a factor of 1.5. These amounts are summed to produce base gross pay per period. Any bonus or extra income is added to this value.
Gross pay per period is multiplied by the selected pay frequency to calculate annual gross income.
Pre-tax deductions are calculated next. The 401(k) or pre-tax percentage is applied to annual gross income to produce an annual pre-tax deduction amount.
Annual taxable income is calculated as:
Annual gross income − pre-tax deductions
Federal income tax is calculated using a progressive tax system. Annual taxable income is reduced by a fixed federal standard deduction based on filing status. The remaining amount is processed through the federal tax brackets sequentially, applying each bracket rate to the income within that bracket. The calculated amounts are summed to produce annual federal income tax.
FICA taxes are calculated separately. Social Security tax is calculated as 6.2% of annual gross income up to a fixed annual cap of 176,100. Medicare tax is calculated as 1.45% of all annual gross income with no cap.
Idaho state tax is calculated using a flat-rate withholding model defined in the code.
Idaho taxable income is calculated as:
Annual gross income − pre-tax deductions − Idaho standard deduction − allowance reduction
The allowance reduction is calculated as the number of Idaho allowances multiplied by 3,750. Idaho taxable income is constrained to a minimum of zero. Idaho state tax is then calculated by applying a flat rate of 5.695%, which is a modeled legacy constant used in this calculator, not a statutory Idaho flat tax rate.
All annual taxes and deductions are divided by the selected pay frequency to produce per-paycheck values. Net pay per paycheck is calculated by subtracting federal withholding, Social Security tax, Medicare tax, Idaho state tax, pre-tax deductions, and other deductions from gross pay per period.
Annual planning values are calculated by annualizing per-paycheck income tax withholding and comparing it to calculated annual income tax liability. Grocery credit values are calculated separately and do not affect paycheck calculations.
Results and Metrics Explained
Net Pay
Gross pay per paycheck minus all per-paycheck taxes and deductions.
Total Taxes
The sum of per-paycheck federal income tax, Social Security tax, Medicare tax, and Idaho state tax.
Effective Tax Rate
Total per-paycheck taxes divided by gross pay per paycheck, expressed as a percentage.
Federal Withholding
The per-paycheck portion of annual federal income tax calculated using progressive tax brackets after the standard deduction.
Social Security (6.2%)
The per-paycheck portion of Social Security tax, subject to the annual wage cap.
Medicare (1.45%)
The per-paycheck portion of Medicare tax with no income cap.
Idaho State Tax
The per-paycheck portion of Idaho income tax calculated using a modeled flat rate of 5.695% after deductions and allowances.
Pre-Tax Deductions
The per-paycheck portion of annual pre-tax deductions calculated as a percentage of gross income.
Other Deductions
Per-paycheck post-tax deductions entered as a fixed amount.
Estimated Annual Income Tax Withheld
The annualized sum of federal and Idaho income tax withholding.
Estimated Income Tax Liability
The sum of calculated annual federal and Idaho income taxes.
Refund / Owe (Excluding FICA)
The numeric difference between estimated annual withholding and estimated income tax liability.
Idaho Grocery Credit Estimate
An annual credit estimate calculated as a fixed amount per person.
Interpreting the Calculation Output
Higher gross pay values increase annual gross income and proportionally increase calculated taxes and deductions according to fixed rates, caps, and bracket thresholds. Higher allowance values reduce Idaho taxable income numerically. Higher pre-tax percentages increase pre-tax deductions and reduce taxable income used for federal and Idaho calculations. Changes in pay frequency redistribute annual totals into smaller or larger per-paycheck values without changing annual totals.
Assumptions and Calculation Limits
- Idaho income tax is calculated using a modeled legacy flat rate of 5.695% defined in the calculator logic.
- Idaho allowance reductions are fixed at 3,750 per allowance.
- Federal standard deductions are fixed at 14,600 for single or head of household and 29,200 for married filing jointly, representing 2024 federal standard deduction constants.
- Social Security tax is capped at 176,100 annually.
- Medicare tax has no income cap.
- Grocery credit calculations are simplified annual estimates and do not affect paycheck net pay.
- No local income taxes, itemized deductions, surtaxes, credits beyond grocery credit, or phase-out rules are included.
